Jack is going crazy. He is becoming obsessive about killing pigs and he won’t help us out. He’s become very hard to deal with. The hunters follow him like little ducklings. When they go hunting they paint their face with clay and charcoal so they can camouflage. Piggy and I were on the beach when we saw a ship. I thought I was dreaming. Is it a mirage?
“Piggy do you see that?” I said.
“I think I do”
“It looks like a ship”
“I think it is Ralph”
“We can be saved Piggy!”
“The signal fire! It’ll work right?!”
“Wait the signal fire is out Ralph!”
“No we have to be saved!”
We tried to start the fire back up. We ran to the mountain but it was no use. The ship was gone.
“No! This could have been our only chance!”
“Piggy, there could be more ships. Well I think?”
I was so furious with Jack. It was his job to keep the fire going. How could he just ignore his duties? His actions were preposterous. He needs to take care of his business. Piggy then began to whimper.
“It’s okay Piggy”
I was just trying to make him feel better, but inside I was mad. We went back down to the beach and we say Jack and his hunters. They were covered in blood and they were chanting a song. A song that was really disturbing. They carried a pig on a stake that two boys carried on their shoulders. Some boys were dancing. They were moving around in weird gyrations.
“Jack where have you been?!”
“Ralph we went hunting. Didn’t we boys!?!”
“Yeah! Kill the beast. Slit it throat, spill its blood!” the boys chanted.
“You were supposed to be here watching the fire!” I yelled
“You should have seen that pig shrill! It was great, and then I stabbed it.”
“I don’t want to know about you killing some stupid pig”
“What are you implying?”
“Well I don’t care!”
“So you’re calling me stupid?”
“No I’m saying… Uh! Forget it! What you’re saying is irrelevant! You were supposed to be here watching the fire! And you can’t even do that! A ship passed and the fire was out! How do you plan on us getting rescued! A ship has to see us! And the only way that is going to happen is if they see the smoke!” Piggy said.
He looked at me with an incredulous look on his face.
“It’s my job?”
“Yes! You guys need to grow up and act mature! Stop acting like little children!” Piggy said.
Jack then slapped Piggy. He slapped him so hard he broke one of the lenses on his glasses.
“Don’t you ever dare to tell me to “grow up” Jack said staring down at Piggy.
“Back off Jack! Leave’em alone!” I said malevolently.
“Whatever” Jack said.
I think he’s final lost it. Hopefully he doesn’t loose it even more.
